First, first day of school

The very first, first day of school. After much preparation, today was finally the day. Grace woke up in a good mood and was being silly with her orange peel during breakfast. Wonder who taught her that? We were so excited for our little school girl. She was excited.....
to finally get to open the last cup on the countdown calendar. Typical.Everybody ready to go. Don't they look so sweet? Lucas has really gotten into saying "cheese" now for the camera but it comes out more like "sheeees". We were thankful that Grandpa was able to watch Lucas while we dropped Grace off.A new tradition starts today. The "PK" stands for pre-k.
It's time for school! Checking her watch to make sure we're on time. The watch was the surprise in the last cup on the countdown calendar.Walking in to school with her first homework assignment in her hand, ready to be turned in.And that was it. As soon as we got inside, she said good morning to her teacher and then went to play with another little girl. No tears, no tantrums. Phew! Mommy and Daddy were so relieved and of course so PROUD. We were tempted to spy in through the window but darn it, they were too high, even for Steve. Back at home, without Grace, Lucas and I played with the farm. He's learning the animal sounds. Then a nap! I could not believe my luck! I got to unload my dishwasher in peace. But...all good things must come to an end (in about 30 minutes). As soon as he woke up, he was calling for his sister. She usually runs into the room as soon as he wakes up. He went everywhere looking for her calling "sthisssssser". He even checked in our bedroom in case she was asleep in our bed. It was just a little bit sad. Poor Bubby. Since he couldn't find her, he decided that he'd help Daddy with his teleconference. Now, everyone knows "who do we call when we don't know which way to go?"Before we knew it, it was time to pick up Grace again. Wait. I had more to get done---laundry, cleaning, a few sewing projects, a mid morning nap.....maybe next time.
Grace was happy to see us, but she also had fun at school. Her teacher said she "painted, painted and painted." Grace said that her teacher read a story about a dog who went to school (he didn't want to go because he wanted to stay home and play with his fire truck"), she played outside on a bouncy horse ("it was white and it was better than the other girl's horse because it went fast") and she ate a snack ("a school cookie").
Here she is ready to go home......
but first she had to show her brother around her classroom. Lots of neat toys.
Everyone ready for lunch.
A special lunch with Mommy, Daddy and Lucas at Chik fil A. She was starving and soooo thirsty. I think she must of had 3 cups of milk.
After lunch we had to take Daddy to the airport for a quick trip to D.C. :(. Then we headed to the park for some outdoor fun.
For dinner, another surprise to celebrate her first day--Chuck E Cheese. She loves riding this horse.
Cheering on Lucas. His eyes got really big when the horse started moving.
Enjoying a delicious first school day dinner with Grandpa, Grandma and Nina.
And the final reward for the day. You can't see it but she's holding a bag of cotton candy or rather is hiding it from her brother. She's saying, "Bubba, this is my cotton candy." As soon as he saw it, he started signing "more". My dad asked if he knew what it was. Sadly, yes. He's got a big sweet tooth (6 to be exact) and a mother who lets her 1 year old eat things like cotton candy.
And that was her first day of school and then some. Such a big girl growing up before our eyes.
